San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck in Saint-Louis-du-Sud, Haiti:
“The Congress joins all those who are praying for the people of Haiti in the wake of a devastating earthquake this morning. Our thoughts are with all families affected by this heartbreaking disaster, especially those who have lost or are still missing loved ones. Some communities are still recovering from the catastrophic 2010 earthquake, which left devastation that a delegation I led sadly witnessed on a visit weeks after. We again saw the ongoing crisis it created on a 2015 visit.
“The United States continues to stand with the people of Haiti during this sad time and mourn for the lives lost to this disaster. The Congress applauds the Biden-Harris Administration’s actions to assist Haiti through USAID, and we call on the international community join us to marshal a robust global response in their time of need.”
