Walnut Creek, CA – As Democrats continue their efforts to address inequities exacerbated by the pandemic, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) will welcome U.S. Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02), Chairman of the influential House Committee on Rules and Co-Chair of the House Hunger Caucus, to California’s 11th District to showcase Bay Area efforts to end hunger on Thursday, August 19th. Chairman McGovern has been at the forefront of the fight to end hunger in Congress for more than 20 years and with both Members serving on the Rules Committee, this visit is part of a series of Rules Committee events highlighting the nation’s food insecurity crisis and exploring steps Congress can take to equitably combat it.
The effects of the coronavirus pandemic have doubled the percent of households with children facing food insecurity from 14% to 28%. Chairman McGovern’s visit comes as Democrats work to expand the Child Tax Credit and build on the Administration’s increase in SNAP benefits to ensure every child has enough nutritious food to eat as we build back better from the pandemic.
The events are open to the press and photographers. Media interested in attending should RSVP to Mairead Glowacki at email@example.com.
