WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement clarifying his remarks about global vaccine distribution.
“I recently met with Iranian Americans who lost loved ones in Iran to COVID-19. My heart goes out to their families and friends. All nations are deserving of vaccines, and it was a mistake to single out specific countries, such as Iran, when discussing my views about how the U.S. should distribute its vaccine surplus. I apologize for doing so. As I had previously stated, I want every eligible person in the global community to receive a vaccine. I want to thank again the Iranian Americans who shared their moving stories with me.”
