WASHINGTON – Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the West Los Angeles VA Campus Improvement Act passed the Senate. A previous version passed the House last week. The bill will allow the West Los Angeles VA Campus to use proceeds from property leasing to build additional housing for homeless veterans. Under current Department of Veterans Affairs regulations, the West LA VA can only use lease proceeds for campus beautification.
“I’m pleased that this bill is one step closer to being signed into law,” said Rep. Lieu. “Our veterans deserve it. Improving the West LA VA has been one of my earliest and enduring priorities in Congress. This bill will help our local VA campus to build additional housing for homeless veterans and builds on our efforts from the 2016 West Los Angeles Leasing Act. Like my Senate partner Senator Feinstein, I am committed to addressing issues around homelessness – especially in our veteran community. I look forward to getting this bill to the finish line so we can continue to ensure the West LA VA campus serves the needs of our local heroes.”
