Huffman Statement on Biden American Jobs Plan

March 31, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Today, member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) released the following statement on President Joe Biden announcing his American Jobs Plan:

“President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is what communities have been asking leaders to deliver year after year. For decades, we have woefully neglected our traditional infrastructure, and we know we not only need to rebuild it, we need to build it back better. But this plan goes further than just bold investments in our nation’s transportation and infrastructure. It supports American manufacturing, invests in rural and urban communities, creates well-paying jobs, and addresses the most significant crisis of our lifetime: climate change.

“We’ve learned during the pandemic that behavioral change – even dramatic change like what we saw over the past year – just isn’t enough to meet our emission reduction goals.  Most of our emissions are driven by our infrastructure, and we can dramatically reduce them through this forward-looking package. As we recover from the pandemic, we have the opportunity to rebuild an economy that is resilient to climate change and create well-paying clean energy jobs at the same time. The infrastructure investments in President Biden’s American Jobs Plan give us the ability to address the climate crisis head-on by advancing the clean energy initiatives our country needs. Under the President’s plan, we’ll be able to move forward groundbreaking projects like our plan to electrify the decrepit and outdated U.S. Postal Service fleet. Pursuing these projects will not only make progress on climate change, it will make our country stronger, healthier, and more prosperous.

“This is a transformational plan that will bring our infrastructure into the 21st century with a focus on equity, jobs, and resilience – and I’m looking forward to working with the Biden administration to advance this plan and deliver solutions to build back better.”
