NEXT FRIDAY: Senator Harris to Hold Black Economic Justice Roundtable at Historic Watts Labor Community Action Committee
LOS ANGELES – U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris (D-CA) on Friday will hold a roundtable in Los Angeles to discuss economic injustice impacting Californians in the wake of President Trump’s decision to continue cutting resources for working families in communities across the country.
As Black History Month comes to a close, Senator Harris will meet with local leaders engaged in Watts to learn more about their efforts to combat economic injustice, and hear stories of their work and the challenges facing California’s working families. In Watts, 44% of people live under the federal poverty line due to unemployment and underemployment. Harris will highlight her ongoing efforts to improve economic conditions and the specific economic challenges faced by marginalized communities in our region.
In addition, Harris will discuss her record fighting for economic justice and expanding opportunity for economically disadvantaged communities, and will discuss the legislation she reintroduced in the Senate to lift up middle class families, the Rent Relief Act, the LIFT Act, and the 21st Century SKILLS Act. Together these bills would expand access to job opportunities, help keep families in their homes, and help working and middle class Californians address the rising cost of living.
