(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2546, the Colorado Wilderness Package.
LaMalfa said: “This package creates a massive amount of new wilderness acreage, the most restrictive federal land use classification, which the USFS did not recommend for designation. No timber management machinery is allowed on wilderness lands, leading to dramatically increased fire risks and reduced public access. Additionally, none of the bills in this package had any of the local input necessary to justify creating 1.5 million acres of new wilderness. This has real consequences for our communities who live with the repercussions of federal land management decisions.”
