WASHINGTON – This afternoon, Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) attended a bipartisan briefing on Iraq and Iran that included Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, and General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After the briefing, Cook issued the following statement on Iran’s missile attack on U.S. Bases in Iraq:
“Yesterday’s missile attack underscores the fact that Iran remains a dangerous adversary. I commend our Armed Forces’ careful preparations which ensured no American or Iraqi lives were lost. In a measured response, the President announced tough new sanctions against Iran, sending a clear message that the United States will not tolerate any further terror or aggression. We must continue to stand against terrorists around the world who threaten American lives and our freedom.”
A member of the House Natural Resources and Armed Services Committees, Congressman Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
